Wight Building Materials ideally located very close to the centre of the island, supplying aggregates, ready-mixed concrete, pre-cast blocks & pavers, decorative hard landscaping products and asphalt materials on the Isle of Wight.
Based at St Georges Down, Blackwater, Wight Building Materials was created in August 2013 as a joint venture between Eurovia and Aggregate Industries, but Blackwater quarry has been producing sand & gravel for the Island’s requirements since the early 1930s and is the largest producer of land based aggregates on the Isle of Wight.
Following mineral extraction, our restoration is undertaken in a sensitive manner, accepting inert waste from construction sites around the island and following strict environmental regulations. The worked areas are restored, making a significant contribution to the aims of sustainable development by returning land to agricultural, recreational and conservation uses. Newport Golf Club at the top of St Georges Down is an example of how mineral workings that are appropriately restored are rightly regarded as a temporary “borrowing” of the land, ensuring that the land is available for the use of generations to come.
We also work in partnership with the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust to enhance the land on and around our sites, reducing negative impacts and enhancing the positive through effective planning and management. Through the commitment to biodiversity action plans, our environmental management processes and procedures are continually reviewed and improved to benefit the local community and protect local habitats and species.
