On the 2nd December and a freezing cold Friday on the 15th January WBM hosted two groups of school children from Holy Cross Primary School, East Cowes. The pupils from years 3 and 4, aged 8 and 9 were shown around the works by Operations Manager Steve Burton, assisted by Sales Assistant Bonnie Hollingshead. The children donned their protective gear and walked up to observe the sand and gravel plant and ready mix concrete plant. They climbed to the top of the new asphalt plant and then went onto see how blocks and pavers were made in the concrete products factory.
Unfortunately (or not) for the children that visited on January 15th, when the tour was over the bus taking them back to school broke down so as it was so cold they were all invited to sit in the weighbridge until replacement transport arrived. Here they were entertained by their teacher as business continued around them.
All the children seemed to thoroughly enjoy the visits, their teacher, Miss Becci Heng said:
“We all had a brilliant time and the children learnt so much. Thank you especially for looking after us when we were stranded after the minibus breakdown, your kindness and patience was very much appreciated.”
