Wight Building Materials helps construct new road for Isle of Wight Scouts

Wight Building Materials, one of the leading suppliers of asphalt and other related construction services on the Isle of Wight have helped build a new road at Corf Camp for the Isle of Wight Scouts.

Working together with Crownpark Builders a local surfacing contractor, Wight Building Materials supplied all the relevant materials and delivery for the works while Crownpark Builders supplied the labour, plant and the machine to lay the material. Completed in one day, the material was laid on top of the existing road at Corf Road, Porchfield which leads to the corf county campsite and has been in a poor state for many years.

Peter Gray, Director of Wight Building Materials, said: “We are always keen to support the local community as part of our corporate responsibility policy. All went well from the initial planning to the actual construction and I would like to thank everyone who was involved for their hard work. The scouts can now easily access the camp site with the newly improved road.”

Trevor Frankling, Director of Crownpark Builders, said: “As a local business we feel it is important to work with local communities, for me this was an important project as a former scout myself. After spending much of my youth at Corf Camp, it is good to be able to help a little in maintaining good facilities for future generations of scouts.”

Barrie Price, Corf Scout Campsite Warden, who put in the initial request for the works said: “I would really like to thank the two companies for laying this road for us and amazed they were able to carry it out in a day. Because of this, I was able to let two of our customer’s use our new meeting rooms, the Mattinson Centre, without losing any income in the week to follow.

“Thanks to their generosity, we will now be able to go forward and gain money through grants and donations from Island Companies, for a new two story accommodation building, as a lot of money is required for this.”
